National Engineers Week: Celebrating the Impact of Engineers in Our World

Engineers play a crucial role in shaping our world. From designing innovative technologies to solving complex problems, their contributions are invaluable. This year, National Engineers Week begins next week and is a time to celebrate their achievements and increase public dialogue about the need for engineers.

Engineers are the driving force behind our modern society. They are responsible for creating and improving the infrastructure that we rely on every day, such as roads, bridges, and buildings. Without their expertise, our cities would not function as efficiently as they do now.

In addition to infrastructure, engineers are also at the forefront of technological advancements. They develop cutting-edge software, design advanced medical devices, and pioneer breakthroughs in renewable energy. Their work directly impacts our quality of life and helps us tackle global challenges such as climate change and healthcare.

One of the key goals of National Engineers Week is to increase public awareness about the importance of engineering. By highlighting the incredible impact engineers have on our lives, we can inspire the next generation to pursue careers in this field. Encouraging young minds to explore engineering can lead to innovative solutions and a brighter future for our world.

To achieve this, various events and activities are organized during National Engineers Week. These include career fairs, workshops, and competitions that showcase the diverse opportunities available in engineering. By engaging with the public, engineers can share their passion and inspire others to join their ranks.

Furthermore, National Engineers Week serves as a platform to recognize and honor the accomplishments of engineers. Awards and ceremonies are held to celebrate their contributions and highlight their achievements. This recognition not only motivates engineers to continue their important work but also raises awareness about the impact they have on society.

However, the need for engineers extends beyond National Engineers Week. As our world becomes increasingly complex, the demand for skilled engineers continues to grow. From addressing infrastructure issues to developing sustainable solutions, engineers are essential in shaping a better future.

In conclusion, National Engineers Week is a time to celebrate the remarkable contributions of engineers. Their work has a profound impact on our world, from improving infrastructure to driving technological advancements. By increasing public dialogue about the need for engineers, we can inspire future generations to pursue careers in this field. Let us recognize and appreciate the invaluable role engineers play in shaping our world and creating a brighter future for all.

We’re Celebrating Our 40th Anniversary!

This month we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of KC Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. (KC). So, it’s a perfect occasion to look back and celebrate KC’s achievements over the years and thank everyone who contributed to them.

As we have always envisioned, KC continues to grow rapidly, taking on and successfully completing major projects throughout the mid-Hudson Valley and the New York metropolitan area. This success is thanks to our vision to always provide the best results for our clients. We are able to provide the best results on each project we take on by staying up-to-date with the latest technology and continually training our personnel in the latest standards and procedures. Our personnel are always learning on and off the field, and their dedication to professional growth and excellence is evidenced with each project and the results we achieve. We have successfully completed multiple multi-million-dollar projects on time and within budget, and we are looking forward to continuing to deliver successful projects for years to come. We believe there is always room to learn and never stop improving, which is why our employees also continue to grow professionally and personally. As a token of appreciation, every year we announce in our newsletters the personnel that we promote, any licenses they have obtained, and/or any personal achievements they want to share with KC. We are grateful to have such talented, dedicated, and passionate employees who value KC's mission and what we stand for. We also recognize the importance of our clients and colleagues, who have trusted us for many years and have contributed to our success. We are honored and thankful, and we truly value all KC employees, clients, and colleagues for being part of our success over the years.

To stay up-to-date on all of KC’s achievements and news, please visit kcepc.com.

Best wishes for another successful year!

National Engineers Week

This week is National Engineers Week!

This week-long event recognizes engineers as a central asset to our world and celebrates their “positive contributions to quality of life,” according to the National Society of Engineers.

Engineers created structures like the Hoover Dam, the Panama Canal, and even the Great Wall of China! Without engineers, these massive and impressive feats would have never come to be.

Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951, National Engineers Week has coincided for over 50 years with the week of President George Washington’s birthday (February 22nd) to pay homage to the USA’s first engineer. Washington was introduced to engineering at an early age, often partaking in land surveying opportunities and ultimately going on to design a country estate on a plantation he’d inherited — Mount Vernon.

Each year, DiscoverE (http://www.discovere.org/), an organization focused on supporting and promoting growth of the engineering and technology communities, encourages children to explore the STEM community through interactive lessons, child-friendly activities, and involvement with their own local engineering communities.

Across the nation in cities like Port Jefferson, NY; Raleigh, NC; and Los Angeles, CA, DiscoverE hosts a series of workshops and presentations to promote the importance of engineering. Children are able to meet and speak with veteran engineers, participate in fun, educational activities, and learn about the global scale of engineered contributions.

How to Use Your Engineering Skills on Halloween?

Engineering skills can be very convenient for holidays like Halloween, as engineers are gifted with the quality and/or skills to design and build. Creating Halloween-themed engineering projects and/or costumes are great ways to showcase engineers’ creative side and engage in fun activities with their family and friends. So, if you are looking for some engineering-related fun Halloween activities and/or want to create your own costumes for this year’s holiday, read on!

Engineers can easily create homemade Halloween decorations and costumes that will make their homes and themselves spooky, but aesthetic. As Halloween approaches, here are some fun decoration and costume ideas that would be a great fit for engineers:

  •  A pumpkin elevator can be made with pumpkins and a variety of recyclable materials;
  •  Germinating pumpkins can be made with pumpkins, seeds, and soil;
  •  Floating ghosts can be made of plastic pipettes;
  •   Spider webs can be made from yarn; and
  •   Paper bats can be made from paper.

Now, if you want a bit of a challenge, then a costume suggestion that would be ideal for engineers to create is Edward Scissorhands. This costume can be made from lots of belts, preferably black with studs and big metal buckles; cheap black pleather that can be bought at any fabric store and sewn to a simple shirt and pants; butterknife hands made with well-fitted black knit winter gloves, in addition to toilet paper rolls, spray paint, a glue gun, and gray or silver plastic knives to design more accurate butterknife hands; and a wig and make-up to finalize the look.

Happy Halloween!

Happy National Professional Engineers Day

A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a certification given to engineers after passing an examination provided by the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCEES). In order to obtain a P.E. license, engineers must meet NCEES requirements of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. Engineers can have multiple P.E. licenses because they are provided individually by states. The first person to ever earn a P.E. license in the United States (U.S.) was Charles Bellamy on August 8th, 1907; now over 100 years later, we celebrate Professional Engineers Day around the world.

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022 will mark the seventh annual anniversary of Professional Engineers Day. The purpose of this holiday is to bring awareness to what engineers do, what it takes to be a P.E., and how they stay up-to-date with rapidly growing technologies. Thanks to the awareness this holiday offers, the U.S. has more than 800,000 engineers with P.E. licenses according to NCEES, and soon we will be able to proudly say the U.S. has more than 1,000,000 engineers with P.E. licenses.

Happy Professional Engineers Day!
